It has come to my attention that much confusion has taken place over the terms Darksynth and Darkwave. Many fans of either genre, are unfamiliar with the other. Darksynth, the very very aggressive/violent, metal influenced subgenre of Synthwave has been growing in popularity for the past decade. It's a wonderful, fun, and crazy style of music. But it isn't Darkwave.
Darkwave is a subgenre of the Goth/Post-Punk scene. And has a long and illustrious history stretching back to the mid-80's. As you can hear in this mix, the two genres really don't sound the same. Although at times those lines can be blurred (and I put a few examples of that in this mix). Some people don't really care and just conflate the two together, but as a longtime fan and artist making music in both styles, I think it's really important that fans know the difference. But at the end of the day, my ultimate hope is that fans of both genres will embrace each others music, because it's all amazing and worth supporting!
