this playlist is a relic of my aural world over the course of 2020. throughout the lockdowns i've spent a lot of time listening to hot 97, trying to hold onto a sense of familiarity in a hallucinatory period of time.
corporate radios punishingly repetitive playlist causes you to hold an ‘average’ view of music, both due to the formulaic nature in which the songs are made, and the guarantee that within 10 minutes you’ll hear one of 10~15 songs
some of the top 40 tracks i just like and some have very particular references (and i’m not sure why but i’ll never forget them)
