Breathless

Mass marketed DJ culture, EDM festivals, and the like serve up an endless stream of “buildups and drops.” An easy binary fix complete with visual cues from the DJ if the mix just can’t cut it: hands up, time to dance… It got me thinking about all the brilliant tracks that have “anticipation and reward” built in, the ones that leave me breathlessly floating, waiting for my feet to touch the ground again. Diving off the high board, not quite certain when or if I will reach the water. Exploring that emptiness, that silence, neither here nor there, pregnant with possibility – yes, this is that mix.
