To Sync or NOT to Sync

Подскажите, как правильно подключить к ПК CDJ прогрыватели и пульт , в моем случае пионеры 1000 мк3 и 600 DJM, что бы программа видела аппаратуру, а не просто входящий звуковой сигнал , какую программулучше использовать , раньше пробовал на виртуальном диджее,но программа не распознавала источник входящего звука, подскажите какэто настроить, заранее спасибо!

Well, hi! I find this debate very intresting. I have experience since the 80's, when, only vinyl turntables where available. Next step was cd controllers in which, as with vinyl, you had to make ''hand made" mixes, maching the incoming song (heard in monitoring) with the song that was on air. Of course i use midi controllers and enjoy how easy it is to mix fast and precisly anything you get in mind! But you will discover that (rarely) some choise you made, surprisingly, cannot automaticly been adjusted by the software!! It is then that your hands and ears will do the job. Imagine also that you want to mix an 'acapella' (only the voice) incoming part on your already playing beat. Sometimes the diagram and waveform is inadequate! Finally i consider the 'skill' of manual mixing an art and the dj a kind of musician! That transforms a 'Collection' to a 'Creation'..

Old school DJ s had a long way to accept the DJ software but now they thinks its no problem to dj for everyone at home. Its the same with Sequensers and musicians. But if you have a great function in the software why not use it?

Well Said... Ican use both, when I use sync I go into Music Producer Mode and add in effects, loops, external clips and instruments! #entertainthecrowd is what its all about!

So true.... i started in the 90s with vinyl. Now i also have the RX2. Man what a machine, i also use my technics in combination. But never ever i use the sync. Let us make soletimes mistakes. Its human not machine 🙌🎶

couldnt agree more, learnt to mix on technics 1200's but love the sync on my pioneer... gives me more time to experiment with hot cues etc... more new school tech!

Well said....your discussion points are true.I was a DJ back in the 80's were vinyls are the norm..I used to mix with just the temp controls on the TT and the mixer...carefully waiting to catch the right beat to match the other song. I got out of the dj business for so many years until just lately...for hobby and I've been using new technology including auto sync just to make it easier but nothing can match doing beat match mixing manually....and yeah your right listeners won't give a shit as long as you keep playing.

Equipment is just a tool. A cell phone is just a tool. How you use it determines your value. I started with vinyl made my way to now and if you want to be relevant in music you have to learn new techniques as well as equipment and relevance is a big part of a long career in music. An open mind is a key to success. When it comes to a proper DJ in my opinion it consists of Practice, Time and Programming. It takes a lot of practice to learn music and the sync button has nothing to do with it. It takes years of experience to learn the nuances of music so people should accept it takes at least 10yr of practice to be trusted and those in combination give you the experience to program to any crowd. Learning new things makes you versatile and experience allows you to recover and respond to unforeseen problems. My only argument is time. You need experience to learn but in the bush leagues before your allowed proper gigs. Now the other side of that is someone with a lot of musical knowledge and a strong instinct for what the crowd wants will rise above any music snob with 20+ years and why some very new DJ's get more gigs then the people who complain they have been doing it longer. Notice the most successful out there never talk shit about others and when they do they fail and slowly die out of the scene or its just some personal beef with someone.

Is not the hardware the problem (turntable,CDJ or Tracktor) bat the Quality end knowledge of the MUSIC

In the 1970s the photography company Leica engineered the technology that enabled cameras to autofocus. It's now standard on just about every camera (including smartphones). The DJ that disdains the Sync button is in the exact (embarrassing) position as the photographer who disdains the autofocus function on his camera--and THERE IS NO SUCH PHOTOGRAPHER!

I mean, how many people look at a fine art photograph and ask: "Yea, but, did she use autofocus?!" Hint: it's the SAME number of people in the club, eyes closed, grooving to the mix, who ask: "Yea, but is she using the Sync button?!"

Of course, as a DJ who likes to drop samples and cut up phrases, I quickly learned that the Sync button is no substitute for mastering your turntable. So, yes, the Sync button is limited. But, still, pissing on the Sync button pushers only makes one look insecure.

I do not see nothing wrong with the sync function, it's just a matter of feeling the music to elevate the mood. primarily those you are entertaining. I must say that it takes some time to learn how. So don't fall short to idiots who talk crap about the sync function. it is a very useful thing to have and use. seriously.

It's your mixes, it's your terms ...

Think it all depends on when someone got into this. I started when there was only vinyl really and no sync what so ever. I consider myself lucky to learn beat matching the "old skool" way. But now we have
so many cool toys, and buttons and effects and so on. I think the end result is what matters always. If what your doing is based in track selection, quality, originality and technical ability then you ok in my book. I love chasing the beat but I also love taking mixes to places they could never go before by focusing on effects, loops and mix points. Love what you do and that will show in your mixes.

You are right the listener doesn’t care but i have to say i only play vinyl and time-code vinyl because i like the feel of a reccord. Playing with the pitch and the moment you just get it right! That’s a big part of the fun for me. But still making a hamonious set is also a skill and we all love a good set! Everybody can say what they want as long as you are having fun it’s ok :)

I think it's just learning your craft like learning any other instrument... i personally have never used a sync button, and it would feel weird to me to not have one hand on my pitch control no matter if I'm using vinyl or cdj's.....

Blah blah blah blah first they made 78s then 45s then the 12 inch blah blah blah then a tracks then tapes then cds now mp3s mp4 what Evers if and when you are to call ur self a dj you can play on anything it not wht you use but how you use it who care sync no sync button

You do have to make sure BPMs, and your respective programs Beatgrid is ok with each song. If you can pull something off that’s impressive and might only function using sync..I’ll let you have it. No matter what the form digital, DVS, CD, Vinyl you should know how to properly beat match first before anything else. That is unless you plan to be bedroom DJ for the remainder of your time. Thought I was big stuff and I knew what I was doing first time I had a decent gig. Bout 45 seconds in I realized I had no idea how to operate their set up. I think in the end if you’re a purist and look at deejaying as an art form then sync buttons prob aren’t ur thing.

Yes it is, being a DJ isn't just about putting 2 tunes together, its a much deeper feeling that tells you how, &when you put the tunes together. Its a debate that never seems to STOP!! But the old argument about if you don't put the tune in by hand, youre not a real DJ, Well BS!! is what I say, theres so much more to DJing than that, & these pathetic people who say, Youre not a real DJ, because you didn't put them together by hand, can bugger off, I did it for over 15 years around London, & I don't need to prove it again now when I can use the sync & concentrate on there things like loops & hot cues

This topic comes up every few weeks and I’m at a loss why. I’ve been playing music now for about 25+ years. Started with Vinyl using both belt and direct drive turn tables. I remember the very same type of discission going on between the 12“ Dj‘s and the CD Dj‘s...... I really dont see the problem. Play what you want how you wan, Just play the music. Its has to be about the music. 😘

Unfortunately it matters to some people. If they know you're using a crutch, you lose cred with them. Depends on whether you care or not what other people think.

To each his own !! Don't like sink button ! Selection very important , In Key , and most important timing. When to start blending and when to get out !!!!! Always even when i played records ! 48 years DJing what do I know !!!!!!!!!!

I'm more interested in the music you play and how you can create a great mix that's recorded or more importantly, how you can get a crowd up and moving.
