Revisiting a devil of a good show, beginning with the fabulous voice of Richard Burton from the 1967 burton/taylor film of Doctor Faustus scored by Mario nascimbene. The devil and Daniel Webster, superb score by Bernard Herrmann ( this film shares my ( one of many ) nomination for best ending, delivered by Walter Huston. The princess and the frog / Keith David sings randy Newman. The little mermaid / menken - ashman, the singer, pat carroll. The 1970 version of Dorian gray / peppino de Luca. ( the George Sanders , Hurd Hatfield, Herbert stothard 1945 MGM version remains best filming ) . Randy Newman again with his version of Faust. From the broadway production of damn yankees, Ray Walton sings Adler/Ross. The 2007 film of ghost rider / Christopher young. Peter Cooke Bedazzled Dudley Moore. The 1940 cabin in the sky has Lena Horne performing a Arlen/harburg out take ( from various documentaries this was very often depending on what state the film was shown ). The TV series the last kingdom scored by John Lynn and performed by eivor. The girl in the spider’s web / roque banos. On the concert stage we hear Mephisto waltz no 1 by lists, the Chicago symphony conducted by Solti. In 1971 Jerry Goldsmith scored the 20th century fox filming of the mephisto waltz. A diversion to the opera with der freischultz overture by Carl Maria Von Weber, performed by the China horn ensemble. Staying at the opera, le damnation de Faust, Berlioz / RPO. Closing with the soldiers chorus. I am familiar with some of the opera pieces played but did not know it’s title. Thank you Tony. ..........another great film music ( and opera ) programme.
