In this Fabulous Film Music Extravaganza our host Tony pays tribute to and celebrates the work of Cloud one Founder “ David Wishart “ ( 1948-2007 ), what a fabulous & knowledgable character. Let’s start....... Mysterious Island/Bernard Herrmann ... The Three Worlds of Gulliver (clouds)Bernard Herrmann ... 1948 Oliver Twist(prelude) Arnold Bax , a re-recording by RPO/Kenneth Alwyn ... a non film concert work, Kaleidoscope (for flute and piano) Miklos Rozsa ... 1951 Quo Vadis (Love theme) Miklos Rozsa (AAN) Tony makes a reference to Christopher Palmer (1946-1995) , Wikipedia says “Prodigious”Malta G.C.March/Arnold Bax (RPO/ Kenneth Alwyn) ... 1952 David lean’s The Sound Barrier/Malcom Arnold (rhapsody for orchestra/opening) again we hear RPO/Kenneth Alwyn ...Fanfares & Flourishes for The Fall of the Roman Empire/Dimitri Tiomkin ... Romeo and Juliet scored by Nino Rota (AAN) What is a Youth Sung by Glenn Weston ( Nino Rota/Eugene Walter) ... 1957 vistaVision, Stanley Kramer’s The Pride and the Passion, we hear the magnificent Main Title / George Anthiel ... The Agony and the Ecstasy (prelude) Alex North ... A Streetcar named Desire ( Blanche) Alex North ... Now Voyager ( Brazilian sojourn) Max Steiner ... Kings Go Fourth (Monique theme) Elmer Bernstein ... Some Camme Running (Dave and Gwen) Elmer Bernstein ... The Ceremony (Main Title) Gerard Schurmann ... Murder on the Orient Express (suite) Richard Rodney Bennett ... Tony now mentions a very much overlooked and I praised film composer ( 260 film credits ) Roy Webb, we hear the Main Title from Journey into Fear, again Tony makes reference to Christopher Palmer ... 1968 A Twist of Sand (sea chase) Tristram Carey ... Circus World aka The Magnificent Showman ( I saw this in London’s west end, showing in single lens CINERAMA ) Dimitri Tiomkin’s “ John Wayne March “ ( in this film, John Wayne shares a scene with one of this country’s finest character actors “ Miles Mallison “ ... El Cid, play out music / song ( which won AAN) Miklos Rozsa, Paul Francis Webster ... ( checkout prog 454 )...... it’s a shame Tony no longer presents soundtracks, a programme on Christopher Palmer would have been great ( it would only scratch the surface ) I wish I could have known both David Wishart and Christopher Palmer, just think of the joy they would have bring to us and the world of film music if they were still with us ...... a truly great salute from Tony. ...... some linked programmes to follow ...........
