One of the highlights of this summer - amongst many lovely trips (NYC!) with my family - was spending time in Millport with Paul McLoone and Mark Fairhurst and our kids. On the way up from England to Scotland to get there I saw a post on here from Edward Alexander McGilp of a line drawing of The Bay Hotel. I bought a print of same on our way through Gourock to the ferry at Largs.
Andrew McD and I spent a few happy years as residents playing records at The Bay the memories of which always make me laugh when discussed on facebook. Long before that, and often less discussed, my mates and I used to spend every Saturday at the Under 18s night. It was our first proper nightclub experience, a brilliant laugh and an all round musical education (sometimes amazing, and truthfully sometimes not).
Seeing the Janey’s logo sketched out in that line drawing brought that music and anecdotes from teenage derangement flooding back, prompting funny chats with McLoone and Mark in Millport. Those in turn led to this mix - a tribute/rip off of one of Billy’s sets circa 85-87.
Ideally this should be listened to very loud, in the dark, after consuming a can of Schlitz and a quarter bottle of vodka in five gulps or less.
When you sober up you can buy the print by Blossom Art from The Pirate and Bluebell in Gourock. Feel free to share / tag anyone who went then as they also might like this.
