The Razormaid Mix

The Razormaid Mix

Avatar

Razormaid was a pioneering DJ remix service launched in 1984 in San Francisco by Joseph Watt and Art Maharg. It provided exclusive, high-quality remixes, edits, and reconstructions to professional club DJs via subscription—focusing on synth-pop, new wave, hi-NRG, and early electronic tracks (especially European artists like Depeche Mode, New Order, and Erasure).
Known for razor-sharp editing, creative flair, clean production, and quirky humor, Razormaid's versions were club staples in the 80s and early 90s, often blending originals with dubs into driving, dancefloor-ready tools. After Art Maharg's death in 1992, Joseph Watt continued the service into the 2000s, with revivals and seminars keeping its legacy alive.
This mix dives into some of my favorite Razormaid remixes—a tribute to their influential, timeless impact on club culture. Enjoy the razor-edged ride!
