This was the first mix I did, along with Rob Housden, as the Grubby Kids. We used this to get our first DJing gig, which was at 93 East in Brick Lane. We repackaged it up, put on some tape that said 'shut up' and used it to promote the gigs. We called it Vol3 to look more established. This was back in 2004! We kinda sucked but it was kinda special too. And it paved the way to our weekly slot at Mother Bar in Shoreditch and at Jaguar Shoes on Kingsland Rd. Damn, they were the days. The mix was born out of a love of grubby garage punk, rockabilly and generally sleazy music. Hell, there is even some grimy gospel in there.
It was Paul Epworth who heard it and gave us the gig at 93 Feet East - he'd just produced the first albums by Bloc Party, Futureheads and the Babyshambles stuff, so we were totally chuffed.
I remember Jamie from Simian Mobile Disco said he played it a fair bit. Cool!
