Fusion often gets a bad press - numerous bloated, unnecessary ‘jazz-rock’ joints probly spring to mind - but we aim to change your brain with this set. All these tunes represent early(ish) efforts to push at the boundaries of what is/was considered ‘jazz’, by way of new rhythm patterns, different compositional and playing styles and arrangements, use of new instruments etc, all of which were frequently borrowed from the rock scene but just as frequently came from unique inspirations. Sometimes these changes were made in a bid for greater commercial success, sometimes out of boredom and frustration with the status quo and sometimes just in a spirit of discovery and fun!
