Passion Week 2019: Good Friday

Sermon Notes: 
Mark 15:33-34At noon, darkness fell across the whole land until three o’clock.  Then at three o’clock Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which means “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?”
Gut-wrenching Loneliness. He was on full display surrounded by crowds but felt utterly abandoned and alone. We have experienced this:
Addiction
Divorce
Grief
Pain
Sin had officially separated, isolated, and now was on the verge of destroying him. How did we get here?
How did we get here? 
Triumphal Entry
Temple Cleansing
Judas
Trial
Conflict always comes to a head.
Jesus brings conflict.
Mark 15:37-38Then Jesus uttered another loud cry and breathed his last. 
Conflict had led to separation, isolation, & the destruction of Jesus…or had it.
Conflict is essential for reconciliation.
And the curtain in the sanctuary of the Temple was torn in two, from top to bottom.
The Cross IS a symbol of reconciliation. It’s not religious action, prayer, compassion
