Special Delivery is a documentary celebrating the work of rural postmen in West Clare. Presented by volunteer broadcaster Keith Flynn, it takes the listeners out on the rounds as the posties fearlessly side step noisy cats, avoid wicked dogs, meet and greet their regulars and in general play an essential and unsung part in the community's day-to-day life.
Postmen and women in rural Ireland are far more than simply bringers of letters and parcels. They bring contact and news to people for whom they may be the only visitor from one day to the next. They sometimes will bring shopping, or call family and friends if they are concerned about someone. They'll even deliver calves (you'll have to listen to find out more about that very "special" delivery)!
This programme was produced by Sallyann Marron, and the programme was made with assistance from the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland's Sound & Vision scheme.
