Off The Beaten Path - Programme 2: Doughmore Beach, Doonbeg

Off The Beaten Path is a series of 7 programmes taking the listener for a walk around different places in West Clare, some well known, some hardly visited. It was first broadcast in August & September 2011 on Raidió Corca Baiscinn, South West Clare's community radio, on 92.5 & 94.8FM. The programme was made with the support of Sound & Vision, the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland's funding scheme.

In this programme, Alan McNamara is joined by ecologist Michael Marron who talks about the geology of the area, and the prehistoric forest that is sometimes exposed and visible on the beach, whilst Aideen O'Mahoney tells the story of her grandafther's rescue and subsequent friendship with a Canadian airman who crashed onto Doughmore Beach during World War II.
