A sample of generative installation "Circadian Rings", shown in the Foyer Gallery, ANU School of Art, Canberra 14th-16th August 2104 as part of the Random9 exhibition Rhythm. Made from the sounds of things I do during a normal day such as sleeping, showering, chatting on the phone, eating, working, listening to music and watching TV. Samples are associated with times of the day and selected to map each hour of the installation to 24 hours of my day. They are generatively cut up and arranged into rhythms according to pseudorandom processes. Rhythms at many levels. It was played quietly in the gallery through 4 speakers in plastic shopping bags - commodified, rubbished, distorted, muffled. It could also be heard through headphones covered in clean socks and scented - more private, direct, voluntary. - Michael Norris
