Freedom is not given, it is taken by those who understand that freedom is inherent to being alive and that no one can say otherwise and be right about it. Freedom is in the mind, and with the awakening of consciousness it is that one becomes truly free beyond any restriction, law or overseeing power that wants to impose its dominion.
