@pfktoledo I'm glad you posted this!!!✨✨✨✨
Top drawer set here, Patrick. Fascinating.
Enjoyed all of this but especially the Marcel Khalife tracks. Oud and vibes? Can't ever remember hearing that combination before but don't they sound great together?
Like the way that you knitted this all together. The appearance of the horns in the penultimate tune was so late in the day that it felt like a real event. Then stripping everything back to the oud for the last tune made for a really satisfying conclusion.
Bravo!
Glad you liked this, John! I did think about having solo oud last but the horns were an accidental. By the way, it's Charlie Mariano and Kenny Wheeler, who get more prominence on some other tracks of that album. And you can hear the recognizable electric bass sound of Steve Swallow interacting with Abou-Khalil on that track. I had four physically beautiful cd's with design by Abou-Khalil himself to choose from and he put together such interesting groups for all his many Enja albums. I'm planning to put together a more detailed playlist with musicians and album titles in a couple days.
And yes, when the vibes suddenly appear on that first Khalife piece, it's such a beautiful surprise! And interestingly, the second piece is the last track of the album so the whole album ends with that solo vibes part.
And finally, while I'm at it, the pianist and the percussionist (who plays the vibes) are Marcel's sons Rami and Bachar!
