Stonewall 69

In conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Rebellion, this curated mix features songs that were among the most popular records on the Stonewall’s jukebox during the week of that infamous police raid in June of 1969. The Greenwich Village "private club" was known for its great jukebox, which was regularly updated with a mix of Motown hits and other soul, rock, and lounge songs of the time. This "Stonewall 69" mix is bookended with the A and B-sides of the #1 most popular record in the club's jukebox at the time–prescient songs by Diana Ross & The Supremes that alternately call for love beyond accepted categories of compatibility and for a passing of the baton to a new generation.
