Back in 2016 we launched one.seventy as a concept event on a Sunday at Rye Wax in South London with a simple remit to create a community space where we could get together with our artist network to collectively enjoy the music we love. To do this, the artists around us gave their time, energy and enthusiasm to do something new and create a permission for innovation. From these beginnings and over 20 events on, one.seventy has become much more expanding into a record label and beyond.
Over the years our Journey on Radio has seen us pass through all of the touch points on the FM and online scene from a residency on Balamii, to guest spots on NTS, Rinse and Noods. For some time now we have been thinking about taking the plunge into something regular again but couldn’t quite see what would be the right fit.
We have decided to commit exclusively to Mixcloud because of the level of control the platform gives us and it allows us to both grow and mobilize our own following effectively.
The music we love is underrepresented and often goes against the grain of the aesthetic of the main players. There remains no monthly focal point for music that bridges the gap between drum & bass, ambient and the more subversive side of music at 170 beats per minute.
One.seventy is uniquely positioned to occupy this space and consolidate the combined efforts of the artists in our network. In a similar way to how we began, we are paying forward, reinvesting in the artistry and creativity of creators around us.
So, what can you expect?
Our pledge is to deliver challenging and inspiring new music that you didn’t previously know you needed to hear. We will be bold and forthright, representing our scene with truth and respect.
We want to hear from you too. Is there an artist we should be championing? Is there music that you think we need to know about? Let us know in the comments. We would love to hear what you think.
