By carrying out an internal process of detachment (like the addict in relation to his substance), we are deactivating that habitual mode (hence the word "habit", even if it is emotional) with which the brain has been working. With this, we are re-weaving neural connections that will no longer be automatically linked in the usual repeated circuit.
So when someone manages to let go, when someone manages to be patient in that long process, what they have done is to modify their brain (which implies an honorable merit), And, with it, to modify the way in which the brain is encoded that one calls "my identity."
