The Bottom Line is one, if not the oldest, of New Orleans Nightclubs. 3 levels, 2 dancefloors, and the city's best DJ's have had residences here. In particular, DJ Mad Dog who from '87-'91 was arguably one of America's best mixers, having mixshows simultaneously in St. Louis (WZEN, KATZ) and New Orleans (WYLD, WQUE) simultaneously, as well as guest sets for the largest clubs in each city. However, it was The Bottom Line where he was featured live every weekend. During his tenure, most patrons remember not leaving the club regularly until 7 or 8 am on a Sunday morning.
This mix is representative of the sound that kept dancefloors packed for hours at a time. The blends, builds, flawless segues, breath of genres, and time periods presented were unlike anything any DJ had mixed prior to then... and even now.
Judging the scope of the music played on urban radio, including throwback formats today, this is what’s been missing.
