My Dad passed away this week and I'm going to miss him immensely.
Growing up in the small town of Hopedale, MA he dreamed of being a radio DJ in the big city of Boston, but was never able to fulfill that dream...until 2015.
Dad joined me on my radio show, Visions of the Unexcused, on WEMF Radio in Cambridge, MA in May of that year - and this is that show. He had a voice that was made for the radio, much better than my own - I played all the music he grew up with as he added commentary. This recording is priceless to me.
So much of who I am musically is because of him. If you came over the Hixon house in the 80's you'd often find little me with my Dad's big headphones over my ears as I sat on the floor and listened to his record collection over and over again - analyzing the album art - pouring over the tunes, while making my own tapes and "radio shows"
I wouldn't collect records, DJ, and have such an incredible affinity and relationship with music if it wasn't for Charlie Hixon
