When I was in high school, instead of collecting signatures in my yearbooks, I'd write down lyrics from songs significant to me that year. It was my way of marking the moment, and remembering where and who I was just then. Several years ago, I started making mixes to mark my birthdays and sharing these mixes with my friends. So it’s my 51st birthday today, and I’m sharing this with you.
Note: I almost didn't make a mix this year. As of late, celebrating a birthday hasn't felt particularly important in light of so many changes. But despite the heartache that came with these changes, perhaps I might eventually regret not acknowledging how they've impacted me at this moment of my life. So we press onward. Hopefully, if you're listening to this, you find something of value in it.
