Welcome to the second edition of The Thursday Mixtape, another two-hour journey through my musical mind, with no fixed theme and no rules about where the music should go next.
This episode moves between Welsh indie-pop, spiritual jazz, Madchester, dreamlike atmospherics, classic new wave, punk, Jamaican soundsystem staples and electronic composition. Along the way there are links between Andy Weatherall, Dave Brubeck and The Stranglers, forgotten favourites from childhood, and a few records that simply deserve to be heard.
A mixtape in the old-fashioned sense: songs connected by influences, stories, discoveries and, sometimes, because they just sound right together.
