(EDIT) If the accumulation of wealth and power is what provides happiness, then I have been an abject failure. But I would do it all again. Sure there are choices made that in hindsight were very wrong, I would change that but not my original plan. Time alters everything, as it should, but music has always been my constant. I’m satisfied. Financially Poor but satisfied. A record store provided some really cool stuff to happen last weekend in Georgia. As if Wuxtry Records hadn’t done enough since employee Peter Buck to meet Michael Stipe and form R.E.M. with Bill Berry and Mike Mills. Last week was a delight for old record store nerds like me, when it brought Mickey Dolenz, the last surviving Monkee, the original quartet of Berry, Buck, Mills and Stipe, the mayor of Athens, GA and a key to the city together in celebration of love and music. Do what you love and you will never work a day in your life has been recited ad infinitum, that doesn’t make it untrue. full text@mikemarrone.com
