The album I referred to is on Spotify as a 1988 re release 😊
The album I referred to was a Riverside re release in Original Jazz Classics series. Album is called Moving Along and is remastered from the Oct 1960 original. The track I mentioned was Body and Soul Take 2. It's a bonus track on the CD. It's fantastic. Number on CD is OJC20 089-2. Cheers Paul
I think Movin' Pt 2 is one of his tracks on the Verve label.
Thanks Mark. I'm pleased there are other sleeve sniffers out there. I think the smell reflects 2nd hand record shops - the celebration of digs gone and the anticipation of those to come. There is a particular shop I know that has that old cardboard smell. You are right, some jazz purists turned their noses up at Wes' CTI recordings. But they had great musicians, arrangers and we're well recorded and produced. Great sleeve photos as well. I believe there were 3. I have A Day in the Life and Down Here on the Ground as 2nd hand acquisitions. Both passed the sniff test. Road Song is the other. If you'll indulge me I'll also mention a 1960 Riverside Wes release called Moving Along. I got a 50 cent library throw out CD. Body and Soul Take 2 is a wonderful cover. Fantastic lower register guitar playing and Victor Feldman on piano is excellent.
Thanks Paul - I have found a track by Wes called Movin' Pt 2 which I plan to play tonight - not sure if that is the track you meant? Glad the sniffing Community reaches New Zealand!
