Black music was mostly banned on the radio from the 70´s till the mid 80´s leaving a time gap of very famous artists nearly forgotten. Thanks to the DJ´s on pirate radio stations, Soul, Funk, and Reggae was selling records at local record shops. New music kept alot of people dancing in the night clubs to these genres, giving the quality of the music, recognition.
