Summer Stargazing

Summer Stargazing

Avatar

I'm sneaking in this summer stargazing mix before we run out of summer. I have been making stargazing and space themed mixes for a long time. But I realized that I haven't posted a straightforward stargazing mix for almost two years. So this mix fixes that.

All the tracks are fairly new, with half of them being from this year. Some tracks are from low light mixes regulars like Loscil, Loneward and Hipnotic Earth alongside new discoveries like RIKAAR, Tone Color and Audio Obscura.

The tracklist and links to albums used in this mix are in the comments.

In my youth, I fell asleep to such music, and woke up to "God have mercy on polar explorers"

Dear David... Dear LLM... I just read this story about the composer of the song 'Nature Boy', an American vagabond, an avant-gardist in the 40's, a proto-hippie, that I find very interesting to share with you, you who are a person with great musical sensitivity. Here is a link to Facebook from where I have read it and which I have translated into Spanish for my friends. Maybe this could inspire you something interesting.

Best regards.

Sorry I meant the Sky Map app...not Chart. I think it is only available on android but I have been using it for years. It even has a red filter so doesn't destroy your night vision. The recent persied meteors were washed out by the full moon but Jupiter and Saturn are now rising earlier in the evening here in North America. Binoculars are great to have a look at the 4 Galilean moons. Show much to see and enjoy. Thanks for this perfectlly stellar mix LLM.

Thanks for the info. Maybe I'll fire up the telescope and binoculars to check out Jupiter and Saturn.

I don't own a telescope (and August skies are generally too hazy for stargazing), but you'd be surprised how sharp an image you can get of lunar craters with just a good set of binoculars. For me the most spectacular night sky-gazing event this year was the total lunar eclipse, the "super blood moon," in May. When it started to come out of totality the bright "diamond ring" around the deep red sphere was awesome!

Those blood moon images are great! I have a brand new telescope but have been too lazy to haul it out and figure out how to use it. Theoretically I can attach my phone directly to it to snap pics. I also have some big-ass binoculars that I bring out every so often. And of course there's the classic laying on my back to watch for meteors and satellites.
