The Plan - make a mix for every year of the 70s, featuring electronic music from each year. Easy peasy! Well, not exactly. The early years are a bit tough. Electronic music wasn't really a genre yet. There are definitely electronic albums. But enough to fill an hour long mix? Maybe...sort of.
Let me start by saying that some folks may disagree with my choices as I tried to fill out the tracklist. There may be some creative finagling in the mixes for the early years. But really, who cares? This is just a fun way to dive deep into the rise of electronic music.
In the early sets you'll hear plenty of krautrock or kosmische music. Bands like Popol Vuh, Amon Duul II, Can, and Ash Ra Temple fit that category and make appearances in the first two mixes. Even Tangerine Dream in these years is barely "electronic."
The more I listen to this set the more I like it. The unexpected tracks and artists made for a fun journey.

Thanks for listening, I'm glad you enjoyed this trip back in time. Cheers!
Great collection of 1970 electronic music.
Really enjoying it.
So glad you're digging the mix!
Much enjoying this, thank you.
Thanks for listening!
P.S. [See my previous comment.] Was also curious how you'd be able to present such an educationally-worthy project, but still within the framework of something called "Low Light Mixes." But I think you've AALLL-most pulled it off, maybe stretching the safety net just a bit?
Congratulations, my friend. Very impressive what you've managed to come up with. I admit I was skeptical, going this far back. I'm glad you chose to be a bit relaxed in your definition of "electronic." Otherwise we might be getting a [mostly] unlistenable set by the likes of Morton Subotnik, Karl Stockhausen, and other early experimentalist of the ZOOOP-boink-dwang, dwang, dwang variety. ;-)
And Suzanne Ciani? I didn't realize she went back that far! Five stars for educational value, 4 1/2 for entertainment.
Thanks Paul! I'm glad the mix worked for you. It was a fun experience digging through these old recordings.
Wow! I have been wanting to explore the roots of electronic music for some time. Thank you for the research and effort that this took!
Thanks for checking out the mix. Stay tuned for 1971. Cheers!
This is excellent! Please keep more mixes like this coming.
So glad you enjoyed the mix! Hopefully there will be another 70s electronic mix every 4 weeks. Cheers!
Who cares indeed? A mix full of wonder, this rolled back the years and made me wish I'd hung on to more of my records from the 70s. Thank you! :)
Thanks for listening and commenting! I feel the same about my old records. I sold nearly all of them 30 years ago and I could kick myself for it. Thanks again for your kind words. Cheers!
On Spotify I also have two new playlists , Indie females 2 and Solar System ( prompted by the one you did ).
Excellent, I'll be sure to check them out.
