I thought I'd share some of my favorite Christmas ambient music . . .

For Christmas evocative music that is primarily not based on traditional/popular Christmas melodies, I recommend the Windham Hill Compilations Winter Solstice 1-5. They are great!

Here are my recommendation for instrumental/ambient covers of traditional Christmas songs:
-Michael Allen Harrison (a local Portland, OR artist) has a number of Christmas albums, but my favorites are The Golden Child and Snowfall.
-Deuter-Celebration of Light
-Cyrus Chestnut-A Charlie Brown Christmas (his jazzy cover of the classic Vince Guaraldi album, which is also jazz, but classic)
--David Arkenstone-Visions of Christmas
-David Arkenstone-Christmas Spirit
-Paul Horn-The Peace Album (I fall asleep to this)
-Paul Winter-Wintersong
-Brian Crain-A Traditional Christmas
-Georgia Kelly-Winter Classics
-Ekimi- The Next Noel (a more obscure and older album and a bit more lively at times, but it's got really interesting covers)

These are not quite as out there as most of what you have on your compilation, but I still think they mainly qualify as ambient Christmas music.

Here are some of my favorite Christmas ambient albums. For "Christmas evocative" music that is not based on actual Christmas song melodies I recommend the Windham Hill Winter Solstice compilations, particuarly Winter Solstice 1-5.

Jackie Gleason (yes, the great actor and comedian Jackie Gleason who was also a great conductor and arranger) has to be the godfather of ambient christmas. My mom would play this his "Merry Christmas" album every year and it created a great soundtrack for the magical aspects of Christams Eve - the fireplace, sparkling snow, the stary night sky, etc. It's some of the most dreamy xmas music I have heard - Haunting choruses, dreamy strings, delicate bells, and mellow vibraphones ake this my favorite Xmas album of all time. "Snowfall" & "Christmas in Paris" are standout tracks on this album.
