It's been quiet on the stream front!
I've been having technical issues with my hardware; turns out my turntables that where manufactured in 2005 are starting to give way, and their downfall is leaking into the audio quality. Just the way technology gives out, I guess.
But really it's just the internal flex sheet that's warping out; the motor, the platter, everything else works just fine. But the flex sheet inside is what matches the platter position to the music position, the link between the analog and the digital. It's such a precise component that when it warps it can be be heard in the output of the music with teeny tiny speed-ups and slow-downs. It affects the sound and that's unacceptable!
Now, because everything else on the deck works just fine, all you really need is a workaround, and one does exist! It's just gonna cost more money and time making some modifications to the decks, both things I'm more than willing to invest in. But taking a step back it made me reconsider my whole set up.
Since I'm hooked on the digital turntable I considered getting a couple of Rane 12s. Now these are pretty slick and they pretty much do what the SL-DZ1200s shoulda be designed to do from the get-go. Just a pure analog feel with a pure digital output. The price is a bit steep however. And then I considered the foot print: the Rane 12 is as big as an analog turntable, except it cannot play records! At least the SL-DZ1200s have a smaller form factor and the visual presence of a turntable. But why pay a full turntable price for something that takes up as much space as a turntable and yet doesn't play records? (Cuz I do have a fat vinyl collection and it would be nice to have the option of doing vinyl sets)
So on that note I considered getting a set of brand new classic style analog turntables. I have some on my watch list. That and a new mixer too. When I obtain this said equipment I will have reached my "final form" and can do most anything I like with my mixes and music collection.
But alas, everything's on hold right now, including my weekly streaming shows. I still have my Pioneer DDJ-REV1 Controller but it's just a static controller and you deserve the showiness of spinning turntables when you tune into my show. That and I'm still in a "listening'' phase, that is, I'm gathering a bunch of new music, listening, and sorting where it may go.
However, I'm updating my site and even sending out applications to do other shows. Make no mistake, new ideas are in the works, I'm just taking a pause. Meanwhile, tune in to the old shows, I have over 60 different episodes up right here! And stay tuned!
