From my too rarely visited 'Live and Unreleased' vault, I am always startled when I see how much STUFF is in there, of course in today's world some of what was once unreleased may have seen some issue or other since - oft times the full shows are way too much and 25 minute songs can be excessive so I think with judicious selecting and editing, the material lends itself quite well to this format.
(I think I feel a series coming on...either that I ate too much.)

An absolutely stunning session with one fine moment followed by another. You had me enthralled the whole set and thanks so much for all the background info. I had not heard any of these traces before and will definitely be searching them out on vinyl. Now excuse me while I go check out part 2! I think Ira's versatility worked against him to some extent - I have one album where he plays all trumpet and he is amazing on it. His unwillingness to stay in New York or Chicago probably hurt him too - he moved to Florida where he played with Joe Diorio amongst others.
Lucky is extraordinary, as is the Hutch track. One of the questions I've had for years: given Ira Sullivan's amazing creativity, why didn't he become a 'major', well-known and widely appreciated voice on his horn?

Wow, this set is beautiful with tons of variety. Really appreciate the notes on each track too KC. One problem with a set this great - the bar is set HIGH!!!
Thanks Chubbs! I think you'll find the next 2 volumes (which are already done) have no problem maintaining the standard of this one, nor will the 4th or 5th volumes which are still in process. I haven't even dipped into any set for more than a single track yet!
Now the scary part is that I've already got a volume 2 waiting once we see a little love here.
