Hey King, thanks a lot for this one. I´ve always had a soft spot for Christmas songs, but I´ve got to admit, I never got round to dig out jazz versions like the ones in this mix. Me being the one in the household always the first to rise in the morning, this will make perfect backdrop to the final preparations come Christmas morning.
"O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum, wie grün sind deine Blätter!" I'm glad this german standard made it in here. Written by Ernst Anschütz in 1824, a german teacher and organist who lived from 1780 to 1861. I also recommend the renditions of Gary Burton and John Hart (Blue Note). And Don Patterson's "Santa Claus" is of course the THANG! Amazing how he owns that classic. Masterful compilation, very well received!
As we speak I'm hearing your music for hours now and am in the midst of "Christmas Blues". Your archive and knowledge about music really amazes me to say the least. I love these little cracklin’ tunes, they are so original. What are 50 or 60 years when christmas is as old as time itself. Gets me in a balanced and overall grateful mood.
