The Warning

Dark, threatening clouds rolled overhead as the Martin family drove home from church. "In Sunday school we learned that Jesus is coming in the clouds," five-year-old Dakota said as he intently watched the sky. "Do you think He's coming today?"

"He could," Mom replied.

"I've heard that all my life," said Alexa. "I think preachers just say that to scare people."

"Alexa!" Mom was interrupted by the thin, piercing wail of a siren. The wind began to blow fiercely, and large drops of rain pelted the car.

"Oh no, that's a tornado warning!" said Alexa.

"We're almost home," said Dad as he peered through the blinding rain.

"Maybe Jesus is coming!" Dakota said excitedly.

"Don't say that!" Alexa cried. "Hurry, Dad!"

"Calm down, Alexa." Dad turned the car into the driveway. Hail began to pelt the ground as the Martins ran for the storm cellar in their backyard.
