Take a four year old. Plop them down in front of a marshmallow. Tell them if they wait ten minutes they will get a second marshmallow but only if they don't eat the first marshmallow. Leave them alone and surreptitiously record their anxiety and frustration. If they can defer gratification the child will become a wonderful person. If not, they will probably become a master criminal specializing in the theft of marshmallows.
