In the early noughties I started playing a lot in Eastern Europe. New places to me. New crowds, some in new countries, hearing music as new. While we were transforming in 88 they were still Soviet satellite states. Free your mind? We don't realise how lucky we've been. Warsaw, Macedonia, particular favourites for me. Played Albania twice in 2004! My style shifted a bit because the soulful, spiritual vocals, or even nostalgia tracks had no impact. Upfront, groovy , spacey cool nrg worked and there was plenty being made. Shaboom, Classic, Low Pressings all pivotal for me. So Gus Gus the sole vocal here which struck me as unusual. Hence my thoughts above.
