Note regarding splits

Hi all,

Jumpin' JK Homan here. Hope you're all enjoying 1964 so far, the changes currently unfolding are very exciting and it's a thrill and an honour to be able to bring them to you each week. I am currently bedbound with a small cold, but hopefully it will have cleared up by the time I have to record the next show.

As you may have noticed, this week's show was the first which needed to be split into two parts. As I've established already, this is because of Mixcloud's track limits. Only four songs from one artist are permitted in one show, as well as three songs from one album. I was prepared for the first of these rules, but not the second. The Beatles' discography is famously messy between UK and US releases and compilations etc., and clearly within Mixcloud's database some songs have received incorrect album labelling as the first part of this week's show was flagged as having too many songs from one album. I struggle to see how this was possible given the songs featured, but it meant I had to cut the show at a point where I wasn't planning to.

This album rule does stand to make things a little more difficult on my end. I still plan on doing the show exactly as I would have intended to without any concessions, but this may necessitate some shows being split into three or possibly even four or more parts, all cut at unpredictable or unexpected moments. It all depends on how the songs are stacked around each other and how Mixcloud's database has them filed. It's going to be messy and unpredictable, and may involve a lot of trial and error on my part as well when it comes to uploading, but either way I refuse to let this rule compromise the vision I have for how the show is going to unfold over these historic next few weeks.

That's all for now. Just wanted to make you all aware that while the next few months may be messy and unwieldy as far as uploads go, I hope to have everything up available to listen in some form or another.

See you all soon!

Hope you feel better soon JK. I feel your musical pain. I've had to split Mixcloud shows in the past because of what is basically the PPL & PPS licenses that Mixcloud allow us to work within - much like 99% of the licensed Internet stations out there today, many of these do not comply with the rules but get away with it as the shows which violate plimits aren't uploaded to Mixcloud, they are just broadcast - and it can be so difficult when you have The Beatles, Elvis & The Stones to try and accommodate fully in any show. It's such a shame the Mixcloud algorithm does not allow a little flexibility especially when you are basically only trying to relive music history accurately but I suppose at the end of the day, these are the rules. All the best and get well soon!

Secondly I wish you all the luck in the world with your hard work with this project. You deserve it. Best wishes. PS I’ve enjoyed it so far it’s gonna be great listening. I can assure you from my end all your hard work is very much appreciated once again. Best wishes.
