I found some old recordings on a hard drive.
This one was labeled "weird mix". It was an exploratory, "wing-it" mix where I set 2 goals:
1. Have at least 2 tracks playing at all times, ideally 3.
3. Make it weird and hypnotic and ominous and also danceable.
I remember recording this in 2011; thought it was garbage because it wasn't "perfect", so I threw it in a hard drive to wither. In retrospect, this mix captures exactly what I've always wanted my DJing to ideally sound like. At the center:
Weird, dreamy, melancholy but not sad, lyrically and melodically repetitive to the point of hypnotic but not repetitive, also happy but ruminative and ominous, not in an off-putting way but kinda off-putting, and sad but weird and not melancholy but also yes that and uncomfortable but definitely not and also so much of that give me all of that give it to me please leave me alone and make me dance and be happy but I just want to sit here and be lost and also sexy, right? Bless my heart.
