When I was in Ibiza 3 weeks ago, I had this craving to get behind my decks and do a nice, long minimal mix.
Ideally I wanted to do a 4 or 5 hour mix, I wanted it to showcase some of the second-wave of modern minimal that is really exciting me – people like Motiv, Barac, Vid and Dubfone – similar to 10 years ago I was excited by everyone from Berlin.
I also wanted to make it my most underground mix, and throw in a few classic minimal tracks along the way, and a bit of Ricardo.
Overall I am absolutely delighted with it. I achieved most of my goals though it only made it to 3.5 hours long. I could have extended it but the story just felt finished. Once I had played Primer Encuentro Latino-Americano, it felt like there was no need to play anything further – I did quickly play something uplifting, then my intended last track and that was that.
To me this is a story.
