1980's Freestyle Mix
Rage West Hollywood 1980s Freestyle Mix #1
Here is a mix of favorite early night hits from 1985-88 when freestyle reigned supreme. Disco became a dirty word for the US music industry after 1980. Freestyle, R&B, New Wave and some Canadian Disco imports filled the void. How would clubs have survived without Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and their ilk? .. not to forget Nile Rogers. Funk & Soul were whitewashed marketing them into something called "Dance Music" and Freestyle. Freestyle is characterized by a rhythm were the emphasis is on 2 & 4 instead of 1 & 3 like Disco.
I worked at Rage 1983-1988 coming from a gig in Canada, and Circus Disco before that. Always into the big rooms.
In this mix Timex Social Club, Jody Watley, Expose, Janet Jackson, Starpoint, Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam, Klymaxx, Pebbles, Pretty Poison, Herb Alpert, The Jets, Shannon.
