The 1999-2001 period in psytrance was an interesting one. The gooey melodic layers of Goa trance had become rare, but artists hadn't yet settled into following the rigidly defined "rules" set forth by the soon-to-homogenize full-on and darkpsy subgenres. This mix bounces around a bit in style to show the different directions a few of the artists were experimenting with at the time. If you think of it as being equal parts post-minimal, proto-full-on, and proto-darkpsy, you'd come pretty close to describing it. I hope you enjoy listening to the experimentation evident in these tracks as much as I enjoyed putting together "Cranium Hexafluoride."
