George Stephenson (1781-1848) was an English engineer and inventor known as the "Father of Railways". He successfully developed an efficient and practical steam locomotive, thus playing a major role in the industrial revolution. Robert Stephenson (1803-1859) was also a prominent engineer who continued his father's work and became one of the main figures in the development of the railway network in England and Europe.
