Flotation Device presents a special podcast-only program featuring an 85th birthday celebration of Annea Lockwood, plus an hour of exploratory chill music by Phill Niblock, Horațiu Rădulescu, Alina Błońska, Sarah Davachi and Žibuoklė Martinaitytė, all in new recordings.
Lockwood's career gets a cherishing retrospective from its glass-breaking, piano-burning origins through the sonic ecologies of her more recent work. Annea offers her own perspective in an interview with host Michael Schell, while her music is interpreted by Maze, Yarn/Wire, Lois Svard and herself, before being rechanneled by former Flotation Device host Christopher DeLaurenti. We also pay our respects to the late Swiss pianist Irène Schweizer with a sampling of her prolific and eclectic solo recordings.
Flotation Device showcase creative and improvised music from the Northwest and around the world both in podcast format and live on Sunday nights 10pm to Midnight on KBCS-FM Bellevue/Seattle/Tacoma.
