Three generations of free improvisors offer new recordings, ranging from creative music originals Anthony Braxton, Amina Claudine Myers and Wadada Leo Smith through the downtown New York veterans of Sunny Five to the rhythmically-lively hybrid compositions of Kate Gentile's quartet. Sam Shalabi contributes solo oud stylings to the mix, while Christopher Cerrone, Richard Baker and Orlando Jacinto Garcia all pursue unusual approaches to text setting. A 50-year commemoration of the Art Ensemble of Chicago's Kabalaba album, plus a new anthology devoted to the late Joel Chadabe round out the proceedings. Creative and improvised music from the Northwest and around the world with host Michael Schell, originally aired July 7, 2024 on KBCS-FM Bellevue/Seattle/Tacoma.
