Flotation Device 2022-10-23 - Reich, Paper, Scissors

Avatar

Flotation Device highlights new albums from Steve Reich and the noise trio of Keiji Haino, Jim O’Rourke and Oren Ambarchi. Plus we relate Klein’s decaying loops to Pauline Oliveros’s early tape delays, and Heiner Goebbels’ new accompaniments for old voices to Dub Taylor’s less reverent plunderphonics in his cult classic Lumière. Wet Ink’s Josh Modney debuts as a bandleader in the company of several Flotation Device regulars, while Bucher-Tan-Countryman and the Mela/Amba duo file improvisational reports from New York and Manilla. Some not-quite-obscene avant-No Wave from Poland’s Kurws rounds out the playlist.

Creative and improvised music with host Michael Schell. Originally aired October 23, 2022. Annotated playlist and photo credits with Comments.
