New Partch and Glass albums in the same podcast, including the premiere recording of a rediscovered gem from 1968? It’s true! In this show we finish our traversal of Musikfabrik’s new recording of Delusion of the Fury, and hear Evan Ziporyn’s multitrack rendition of a just-excavated proto-minimalist Glass composition for three clarinets. We also revisit Wendy Carlos’s transitional album Sonic Seasonings for its 50th anniversary, comparing its brand of accessible ambience to the more dissonant drones of John Cage (from Ondine’s new album devoted to his choral music). And we sample new offerings by SPOOK, Mary Halvorson, the Matthew Shipp Trio, Aperture Duo and Wadada Leo Smith with Pheeroan akLaff, all in a most memorable edition of Flotation Device.
