Flotation Device 2022-07-10 - Delusion of the Fury 1

Harry Partch takes center stage via Musikfabrik’s just-released recording of Delusion of the Fury—only the second ever of the magnum opus of this most mavericky of all American mavericks. And it sounds great in this modern digital rendition that features Musikfabrik’s complete set of replica Partch instruments.

We also dive into Ondine’s new recording of John Cage’s choral music, three new duet albums featuring Ingrid Laubrock and Andy Milne, Bennie Maupin and Adam Rudolph, and Han Bennink and Wadada Leo Smith, plus Tony Malaby’s new album with his Sabino quartet. We honor Per Nørgård for his 90th birthday, Vykintas Baltakas for his 50th, and Peter Maxwell Davies for the golden anniversary of his opera Taverner, which explores the ominously-pertinent theme of religion and the state. We round things out with a minimalist string quartet by the late Heinz Winbeck and the debut album of minimalist-informed rock-n-roll by the band Worst Spills.
