Flotation Device honors Salvatore Sciarrino for his 75th birthday, with the premiere recording of his orchestral music for Dante’s Paradiso. We also commemorate the 50th anniversary of key works by Keith Jarrett (from the end of his tenure as an avant-gardist), as well as Sofia Gubaidulina and Meredith Monk (from the beginning of theirs). We explore how Monk became a model for the newly-recorded Drone Mass by the late Jóhann Jóhannsson.
The light of remembrance also shines on the late Philip Jeck and Mira Calix, with forthcoming releases of Ukrainian avant-electronica, London free improv (with guest Thurston Moore), and Balinese-Australian drum fusion rounding out the playlist. Creative and improvised music from the Northwest and beyond with host Michael Schell.
