Flotation Device 2022-01-16 - The Art Ensemble in Chicago

Flotation Devices jumps into the new year with a batch of fresh albums featuring several musicians making their Flotation Device debuts. Improv + electronics is a common thread in tracks from Charles Rumback, Alwin van der Linde, Gabriel Zucker + The Delegation, Cecilia Lopez + Joe Moffett, and Yarn/Wire with Marcel Zaes. The legacy influence of the Art Ensemble of Chicago is often in evidence, as we demonstrate with an important live recording made by that eminent collective upon their return from France (offered via our 50-years-ago-in-the-avant-garde feature). Nocturnal landscapes from Gunnar Andreas Kristinsson and Bekah Simms, plus new dark ambient from instrument builder Chas Smith round out the playlist. Creative and improvised music from the Northwest and around the world with host Michael Schell, originally aired January 16, 2022.
