We continue our traversal of The Locals’ unusual rock- and klezmer-seasoned Braxton interpretations, The Residents’ recent compilation of newly-excavated 1970s oddities, and the four latest volumes of John Zorn's Bagatelles featuring Brian Marsella, the John Medeski Trio and the Kris Davis Quartet. Our “50 years ago in the avant-garde” feature chimes in with a Stockhausen Ensemble gem from December 1971 that we relate to today’s international live-electronic music culture as represented by Unexplained Sounds Group’s newest anthology of radical and obscure electroacoustic works.
