Thy Will Be Done

Up near the start of the Model Prayer, we have this statement which is part of a larger statement: “Thy will be done…”.  Christians have said this millions upon millions of time during the two millennia since Christ walked the earth.  Jesus taught us to pray this and He prayed it and lived it.  We see Him in the Garden of Gethsemane saying to His Father, “not my will, but Thy will be done.”  The challenge with this important statement is that we often say this portion of the prayer and yet do something that is absolutely not the will of God at all—and we know it.  The Bible says that “judgment will start at the household of God”.  That is a statement which ought to give every Christian pause.  Let’s make certain that when we say, “Thy will be done” to God that we really mean for His will to be done.
